Il-Kumitat tat-Trasport u t-Turiżmu tal-Parlament Ewropew approva żewġ inizjattivi mressqa mill-MEP Daniel Attard biex isaħħu s-settur turistiku Ewropew b’enfasi fuq il-ħiliet diġitali u turiżmu sostenibbli u b’saħħtu.
L-ewwel proposta, Upskilling and Reskilling the Tourism Ecosystem, tiffoka fuq it-taħriġ diġitali għall-SMEs u l-entitajiet li jippromwovu t-turiżmu. L-għan hu li jitnaqqas b’mod sinifikanti n-numru ta’ ħaddiema fil-qasam li jeħtieġu taħriġ mill-ġdid u jiżdied l-użu tal-internet fost dawk mingħajr edukazzjoni formali. Se jinħoloq ukoll qafas komuni għat-tixrid u l-użu tad-dejta biex jissaħħu l-kompetittività u l-innovazzjoni fis-settur.
It-tieni proposta, The European Capital of Health Destination, tippromwovi turiżmu b’saħħtu u sostenibbli, ibbażat fuq il-ġid naturali, ċentri tas-saħħa u l-benessri u t-tradizzjonijiet Ewropej. Din l-inizjattiva tappoġġja l-viżjoni Brand Europe u tħeġġeġ turiżmu matul is-sena kollha.
L-azzjonijiet jinkludu ħolqien ta’ netwerk Ewropew għall-iskambju tal-aqwa prattici, pjattaforma diġitali speċjalizzata u tisħiħ tal-aċċess għal spazji ħodor u s-servizzi tas-saħħa f’żoni rurali. Dan se jsaħħaħ l-ekonomiji lokali u joħloq impjiegi ġodda.
Żewġ inizjattivi li jpoġġu l-Ewropa f’pożizzjoni aktar b’saħħitha biex tindirizza l-isfidi u l-opportunitajiet ta’ settur turistiku li qed jinbidel.

Daniel Attard has secured backing for two initiatives to strengthen Europe’s tourism sector.
The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee has approved two initiatives led by MEP Daniel Attard. These initiatives are aimed at boosting Europe’s tourism sector by investing in digital skills and promoting sustainable, health-driven travel.
The first initiative, Upskilling and Reskilling the Tourism Ecosystem, focuses on enhancing digital skills and data management among SMEs and tourism promotion entities. The objective is to significantly reduce the number of workers needing reskilling while increasing digital inclusion among those without formal education. A common framework for data sharing will also be developed to strengthen competitiveness and innovation across the sector.
The second initiative, The European Capital of Health Destination, places health and wellness at the heart of Europe’s tourism strategy. By building on Europe’s natural assets, health and wellness centres, and long-standing traditions in this field, the initiative promotes sustainable, year-round tourism and supports the Brand Europe vision.
The initiative includes establishing a European network to exchange best practices, creating a dedicated digital platform for health and active tourism, and improving access to green spaces and healthcare services, particularly in rural areas. This will strengthen local economies and create new job opportunities.
Both initiatives position Europe to better address the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities of a constantly evolving tourism sector.
